Mobile App Development Cost in India (2026): Android, iOS & Flutter

23 September 2026 7 min read Apex Innovation team

Mobile app development cost in India varies more than almost any other software project. A simple app and a marketplace like a food-delivery platform are both "apps", but one costs ten times the other. Here's how to estimate your budget in 2026: typical ranges, the Flutter vs native decision, and the costs that continue after launch.

A note on these numbers: these are typical ranges for India in 2026 and include design, development and testing. They are a starting point for planning, not a quote.

Typical mobile app development cost in India (2026)

App complexityExamplesTypical costTypical timeline
SimpleInformation app, catalogue, simple booking₹1.5 – ₹4 lakh1–2 months
MediumLogins, payments, push notifications, admin panel₹4 – ₹12 lakh2–4 months
ComplexMarketplaces, real-time tracking, chat, multiple user roles₹12 – ₹40 lakh+4–9+ months

Remember that most apps need a back-end and admin panel as well: the server that stores data and the dashboard your team uses to manage it. It is often 30–40% of the total effort and is sometimes left out of cheap quotes.

Flutter vs native: the biggest cost decision

Native apps are built separately for each platform: Kotlin for Android and Swift for iOS. That means two codebases and roughly double the build and maintenance effort.

Flutter lets one team build Android and iOS apps from a single codebase. For most business apps (booking, e-commerce, school, field-staff and dashboard apps) Flutter can cut development cost significantly compared with two native apps, and every future feature is built once instead of twice. Native still makes sense for apps that lean heavily on platform-specific features or demanding graphics.

What drives the cost of an app

  1. Number of screens and user roles. A customer app plus a delivery-partner app plus an admin panel is three products.
  2. Integrations. Payments, maps, SMS/OTP, WhatsApp and third-party APIs each add work.
  3. Real-time features. Live tracking, chat and instant updates need more complex infrastructure.
  4. Design. Custom illustrations and animations cost more than a clean, standard interface.
  5. Offline support. Apps that must work without internet need extra logic to store and sync data.

Costs after launch

  • Google Play developer account: a one-time US$25 registration fee.
  • Apple Developer Program: US$99 per year to publish on the App Store.
  • Servers and services: hosting, database, push notifications and SMS, which grow with your users.
  • Maintenance: every year Android and iOS release new versions and store policies change. Budget around 15–20% of the build cost per year for updates and fixes.

How to keep your app budget under control

  • Start with an MVP. Launch the smallest version that solves the main problem, then add features based on real usage.
  • Write down the must-haves. A clear feature list is the single best way to get accurate quotes and avoid surprises.
  • Ask what's included. Design, back-end, admin panel, testing, store publishing and post-launch support should all be listed.
  • Make sure you own the code. The source code and store accounts should be in your name.
